On writing

Here’s the truth: It’s hard to write anything but lists. I write a list, then I re-write it, and sometimes I write it again. It’s a strange meditation, but it certainly helps. These lists are mostly “to-do” lists and as I crawl around the corners of my mind searching for important things that I’ve have forgotten I end up finding all sorts of other things I should put on my list: make a dentist appointment, set up irrigation for the fruit trees, call my mother, write.

I’ve hit all my goals for the garden so far and I have lists to thank. They keep me focused. Anything that didn’t get done today gets moved to tomorrow’s list. The things that weren’t important yesterday get a little more important each day, until they are crossed off. I’m not sure how else someone is supposed to sanely turn a small piece of pasture into a fully productive Tier II recreational facility in six months.

We transplanted all our girls by the first of July. The security system was installed and working by July 15. And despite hours of tinkering, the irrigation system is fully operative, and a beautiful ballet of automation, if you ask me.

We passed our OLCC inspection last week and are now one of the many licensed producers in the bountiful state of Oregon. There are so many details that went into making all of this come together in such a short amount of time and now that we are licensed, there are so many more details to track. So in the meantime, I will try to give my logical brain a break and write here, but I may succumb to lists for the time being. If I can’t keep up with words, I will keep up with my instagram: @gudgardens. Follow me there and see the transformation. Oh! and watch our girls grow!
